Sustainability is a measurable commitment. That's why our winery has official carbon footprint certification , granted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) . This certification is part of the National Carbon Footprint Registry , a public instrument that recognizes companies that quantify, verify, and reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions according to official criteria and recognized methodologies.
What does this certification mean?
First, it means that we have rigorously and transparently measured and recorded all greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our operations, from vineyard work to winemaking, bottling, and distribution. This analysis allows us to know precisely where and how emissions are generated , identify areas for improvement, and establish reduction plans with specific and verifiable targets.
Secondly, it means we are following an ongoing action plan to progressively reduce our carbon footprint. Among the measures already implemented are:
-
Photovoltaic generation , which currently covers around 60% of our energy consumption .
-
The incorporation of the Oresteo system, which recovers and reuses the CO₂ produced during fermentation, preventing its emission into the atmosphere.
-
Optimizing logistics and climate control processes in the warehouse to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
-
The promotion of certified organic viticulture practices, which reduce environmental impact from the source.
Furthermore, we maintain annual monitoring of emissions and their reductions, ensuring that our progress is traceable and verifiable . All of this is carried out with the support of accredited technicians and under the standards established by the MITECO (Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge), which gives this certification an official and auditable character.
Ultimately, this accreditation is proof of a genuine commitment. It's a recognition that validates EL GRIFO 's strategy towards a cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally responsible production model, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the roadmap to climate neutrality that guides the future of the wine sector.
At EL GRIFO we measure, reduce and improve every step to ensure that our footprint, in time and on the earth, is always positive.
