This landscape, declared a Protected Natural Area of the Canary Islands in 1994, is unique in the world. It is the fruit of the ingenuity and perseverance of Lanzarote farmers, who with patience and love for the land have transformed the volcanic rock into the cradle of some of the finest wines in the Canary Islands.
Here, each vineyard tells a story . The vines are grown in pits dug in the picón (a type of pit) field, a centuries-old technique that harnesses the exceptional properties of volcanic ash. This porous material acts like a natural sponge, absorbing moisture from night dew and retaining it underground, allowing the roots to hydrate even in an arid climate without irrigation.
The dry stone walls surrounding each plant protect the vines from the trade winds and intense sun, creating an ideal microclimate that promotes slow, balanced grape ripening.
The result is wines with a volcanic character, intense mineral aromas, and unmistakable freshness and elegance.

LOCATION OF LA GERIA
La Geria is a Protected Natural Landscape located in the south-central part of Lanzarote , extending across the municipalities of Yaiza, Tías, San Bartolomé, Tinajo and Teguise .
It is located just east of Timanfaya National Park and is crossed by the LZ-30 highway , the wine route that connects Uga with Mozaga.
HOW TO GET HERE
From Yaiza : take the LZ-30 north.
From Puerto del Carmen (Tías) : about 10 minutes by car following the LZ-504 until connecting with the LZ-30
From Arrecife : approximately 20 minutes via LZ-2 to San Bartolomé, then LZ-30
WHEN TO VISIT LA GERIA
Each season in La Geria Lanzarote has its own charm.
- In summer , during the grape harvest (August and September), the vineyards are filled with life and tradition: it's the perfect time to experience the origin of volcanic wines up close.
- In spring , the vines begin to sprout and the landscape is filled with contrasts, ideal for exploring on foot or by bicycle in the mild, bright climate.
