EL GRIFO WINE MUSEUM
A journey through the centuries-old history of our winery
LANZAROTE’S WINE HERITAGE
Located in the heart of the winery in Lanzarote, the EL GRIFO Wine Museum showcases a collection of historic machinery and old wine tanks that have been used throughout our 250-year history.
Visitors can explore everything from the original 1775 winepress to tools that reflect the evolution of winemaking on the island, uniquely adapted to the extreme conditions of its volcanic soils.

A UNIQUE EXHIBITION IN LANZAROTE
Among our most treasured pieces is the 1775 foundational stone, engraved with the date marking the beginning of this iconic winery.
Additionally, the museum showcases machinery from the past that stands out for its innovation during a time of limited resources, offering insight into the ingenuity and adaptability of our ancestors.
Every corner of the museum tells a story of hard work, tradition, and respect for the environment.

CENTURIES-OLD WINES
EL GRIFO wines have a centuries-old history that dates back to the late 18th century, when the winery was founded.
The interaction of the strains with the volcanic soil of Lanzarote gives rise to unique wines of enormous historical value, such as our 1881 Malvasía Volcánica wine.

A PLACE AND A DATE
During restoration work on the winery in 1986, the foundation stone came to light, confirming the winery's origins in 1775 , making EL GRIFO one of the ten oldest wineries in Spain .
This discovery represented a direct bridge to the past and a reaffirmation of the long winemaking tradition that defines the identity of our winery.

THE 1775 OLD WINEPRESS
Within the EL GRIFO Wine Museum, the Old Wine Press is one of the most iconic spaces. It is the original structure where grapes were originally pressed by hand to extract the must that would give life to the winery's wines.
Built from volcanic rock, the winery reflects the techniques of yesteryear, when human strength and ingenuity were key to winemaking under extreme conditions.
Here, the must was filtered and sent to oak barrels for fermentation. Today, it remains a living symbol of the tradition and dedication of several generations of winemakers.
A Unique Experience of Winemaking Tradition
Founded in 1775, the old EL GRIFO winery is more than a museum; it's a living part of Lanzarote's history.
Its historic winery and original wine press, carefully preserved, tell of centuries of winemaking tradition.
Exploring these spaces means delving into the soul of Canarian oenology and understanding how the island's unique conditions have given rise to exceptional wines.
