RONDA IBERIA. THE LEGACY OF FIRE

Ronda Iberia magazine, one of Spain's most widely read in-flight publications, has dedicated an extensive feature to El Grifo to mark our 250th anniversary. Entitled "The Legacy of Fire," the article traces the history of the oldest winery in the Canary Islands and one of the ten oldest in Spain, founded in 1775 on land shaped by the Timanfaya volcano eruptions.

The text delves into the unique character of our heroic viticulture , practiced in the humble dwellings of La Geria, and how farmers and winemakers have transformed an extreme landscape into a territory of unique wines. The journalist highlights the resilience of this ancestral crop, the minerality of our wines, and the value of working with pre-phylloxera vines .

The article also highlights our commitment to innovation—such as the Winter Harvest , regenerative viticulture, and organic farming —as well as EL GRIFO's close relationship with culture . Figures like José Hierro, José Saramago, Alfredo Kraus, and César Manrique, the designer of our logo, appear as an essential part of this historical journey.

In addition, the publication covers the launch of the commemorative 250th-anniversary wine, made with 2018 Malvasía Volcánica grapes and labeled with a work by the Lanzarote artist Ildefonso Aguilar. The article concludes with a look at the wine museum, the library, the wine bar, and the new rural hotel, presenting El Grifo as a place where wine and landscape form an inseparable experience.

A piece that reinforces the unique character of our legacy and the deep connection between Lanzarote, its history and our wines.
