At EL GRIFO we always say that our origin defines us. We were born in 1775, on a still-fresh lava landscape, and since then we have lived surrounded by a territory that demands respect and perseverance.
That is why we are especially excited to see how national media outlets, such as El Periódico de Cataluña , highlight that deep link between our winery, the volcanic soil and the identity of Lanzarote.
In her article “Wine Born from the Volcano,” Àngels Mas writes about our Malvasía Volcánica and Listán Negro for what they truly are: two wines that express the power of the climate, the trade winds, the volcanic ash, and the work of generations of winemakers. She also highlights something that is fundamental to us: the natural relationship between our wines and the island's gastronomy. Kamezí and Lilium are magnificent examples of how Lanzarote's haute cuisine draws inspiration from the land and finds in our wines a perfect partner that enhances every dish.
The article also highlights the essence of Lanzarote as a destination: our landscape, the legacy of César Manrique, the white villages, Timanfaya National Park… and, finally, our hotel. We are especially pleased that they emphasize the rural charm of Hotel El Grifo and its connection to the environment, as it reflects our commitment to peaceful, authentic, and respectful wine tourism.
In the article, Àngels also recounts the event with which we celebrated our 250th anniversary in 2025, a very intimate affair for us, held among the vineyards, right where it all began. It was a tribute to those who have sustained this unique viticulture for two and a half centuries.
We are happy to see how national media help tell our story, but above all how they convey what we who work at EL GRIFO feel every day: that Lanzarote is not just visited, it is lived.
