Yesterday, Thursday, October 16th, was a very special moment for all of us at El Grifo . The San Bartolomé City Council paid tribute to us at an institutional event, officially renaming a square in the town to commemorate our 250th anniversary .

The event took place at the entrance to La Florida and brought together numerous neighbors, public representatives, and many members of our team, who wanted to share in this moving recognition. During the ceremony, the plaque with the space's new name was unveiled, a gesture that fulfills the agreement unanimously approved at the municipal plenary session on May 28.
The event was presided over by the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez , and our owner, Fermín Otamendi . In his speech, the mayor highlighted the role El Grifo has played in the municipality's identity and economy:
"Since its inception, this winery has been an economic engine for San Bartolomé, promoting the primary sector with respect for the land and the people. El Grifo exemplifies the courage of the men and women of Lanzarote who have transformed hardship into opportunity, and the volcanic landscape into culture, identity, and economy."
Over these 250 years, we have taken the name of San Bartolomé and Lanzarote around the world, with wines recognized in international competitions such as Mundus Vini, Bacchus, Decanter or Berliner Wine Trophy , and recently with the 2025 Canary Islands Award for Tourism Excellence .
Fermín Otamendi , co-owner of our winery, wanted to thank the City Council for its gesture and the affection of everyone present:
"This tribute is a collective recognition of the work of entire generations who have made it possible for El Grifo to continue to be an international benchmark for volcanic wine today."

This event represents a new source of pride for our entire team and the El Grifo family. We sincerely thank the San Bartolomé City Council for this tribute, which we feel is a symbol of unity between our history, our land, and the people who make it possible every day.
